Adding Endorsements

Effective June 27, 2017, there are two options for adding an endorsement. Additional details on testing and adding endorsements can be found on the OSPI Certification site. Find additional information about this policy change here and by reviewing the May 2017 Board materials (tab 11).

Test only endorsements (formerly Pathway 1):
Must pass a WEST-E/NES test or an alternative approved through the PESB for the desired endorsement. Further testing information here.

Program and test endorsements (formerly Pathway 3):
May only be added by completion of an approved program. Find the list of approved programs here
  • Elementary Education
  • Special Education
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Early Childhood Special Education
  • Reading
  • English Language Learner*
  • Bilingual*
Individuals who hold an ELL or Bilingual endorsement may add the other endorsement via passage of the appropriate required subject knowledge or language proficiency test(s).

Please note: The ability for certified teachers to add endorsements via National Board Certification or a PESB-approved endorsement program remains unchanged. This WAC does not apply to either CTE or specialty endorsements.
