Prospective Teachers

Basic requirements for becoming a teacher in Washington State:

Teachers in Washington schools must be fully certified. A valid Washington certificate is required. Each certificate type has education, preparation, and testing requirements. Additionally, teachers must meet basic character and fitness requirements and fingerprint background check.

  • The Pipeline for Paraeducators Conditional Scholarship provides support for paraeducators wanting to earn their AA and full certification
  • The WASH Board site connects students to all types of Washington scholarships.
  • TRIO programs are federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Check with your district to see if they will be participating in the 2015-16 Block Grant, possible scholarships available.
