Washington State Teacher Academy Standards

In Washington State, Teacher Academies should align with the standards for teachers in the education profession; both these standards are governed by the Professional Educators Standards Board. Following the creation of this curriculum, its core standards have been aligned with standards for Washington State Teacher Preparation ProgramsEducators Rising, and National Board. The six standards for the Recruiting Washington Teachers (RWT) Curriculum showcase what high school students interested in the teaching profession should demonstrate engagement with on the pathway to become an educator. The standards for the RWT Curriculum are the following:

1. Healthy Learning Community

2. Culture and Identity

3: Educational Equity and Opportunity

4. Equity Pedagogy

5. Pathways into the Profession: College Access

6. Guided Inquiry: Theory into Practice

We believe that scaling teacher academies, as part of "Grow Your Own" efforts in our state, will lead to a more culturally responsive and diverse teacher workforce. See the detailed standards here.
